TEACHING GEOMETRY IN THE PRIMARY CLASSROOM

Hi everyone! Today we are going to explain how to teach geometry for primary school students.

Geometry is a fundamental part of mathematics that acquaints primary school students with shapes, spatial relationships, and problem-solving. Teaching geometry successfully in the primary classroom can be rewarding through innovative and strategic methods. Here are several engaging techniques and useful resources to improve geometry instruction for young learners:

Some activities to explore geometric concepts can be using manipulative resources such as pattern blocks, tangrams or geoboard as visualisation can be much easier to understand.

On the other hand, technology can be very useful as it helps students to learn through games or interesting programmes.

Using real connections can also be very beneficial since, as we have seen throughout the blog, geometry is present in our daily lives. It can be very useful to explain concepts using real life examples.

Many teachers are also committed to learning in collaborative groups, as it facilitates the understanding of the content and encourages teamwork.
