TEACHING GEOMETRY TO STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Hello to all of you! Today I bring you a post about how we can teach geometry to students with special educational needs. After some research, I have been able to identify a few ways:

1. Using manipulative material. For visually impaired students, it can be very helpful to touch the material with their own hands as they can get an idea of what the figures look like.

2. Explanations based on everyday experiences or examples. We can design explanations that have to do with examples from everyday life to make it much easier for them to understand.

3. Adjust the activities to their level. It is essential that we adapt the activities to the possibilities available to each student, because if they do not reach the level of the students, they will feel frustrated and bored.

4. Use accessible technology. Including programmes adapted for students can be very beneficial as they will be able to use them and they will be able to learn much more quickly and effectively.

5. Tailor assessment to their needs. It is necessary to adapt assessment to the specific needs of each learner.

Finally, I would like to include the importance of always trying to motivate and encourage them in spite of their difficulties, as these students often come with self-esteem problems due to the comparison with the rest, so we must be an example for them and constantly inspire them to continue to strive for improvement.
