MAKING ORIGAMI: AN INTERESTING ACVITY FOR PRIMARY CHILDREN

Imagen
As future primary school teachers, we are constantly looking for ways or methodologies to make learning exciting, interactive and meaningful for our students. One activity that has gained popularity in the classroom is origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. We will look at powerful tools to foster creativity and learning in our classrooms. Benefits of Origami  Origami has many benefits for elementary school children. By practising origami, students improve their concentration and patience. In addition, it stimulates creativity and problem solving, as children must follow the instructions given to them.  Another remarkable aspect of origami is its connection to mathematics. By folding paper, students learn geometric concepts such as shapes, symmetry, angles and proportions in a practical and tangible way. This helps them to better understand these concepts and apply them in real-life situations.  Origami Activities to Teach Geometry Origami of Geometric Shapes: Making shapes such a

INTERESTIG ACTIVITIES FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS

Imagen
Hello everybody! I am going to tell you about some activities that we can do with our primary school students.  Activity: Build Models of Geometric Figures Through this hands-on activity, students can explore and understand the properties of different geometric shapes. To build models of shapes such as cubes, pyramids, cylinders, spheres, we can use materials such as sticks, plasticine, straws, etc.  Thanks to the visualisation of the models built, children can observe and analyse characteristics such as the number of faces, vertices and the relationships between the elements. They can also explore how different geometric shapes can be combined to create more complex structures. This activity helps to develop spatial skills, such as understanding of geometric concepts and pupils' creativity. It also allows them to manipulate and experiment with shapes in a fun and exciting way. Activity: Geometric dominoes game The geometric domino game is a fun activity that allows students to pra

EXPLORING GEOMETRY THROUGH CHILDREN'S SONGS

Imagen
Hello to all of you! Today I am here to tell you that nursery rhymes can be a great tool to teach geometry to children in a fun way.  Through the songs, the students learn in a multisensory way since through the songs, the children listen to the lyrics, observe the gestures and imitate the movements, being able to better remember the information of the geometric figures.  In addition, the pupils can listen to the song constantly and thanks to repetition and sounds, the content can easily be stored in their memory. In the case of geometric shapes, there are many songs that narrate the shapes, sides and characteristics. This tool can be of great help to students to easily learn geometric figures.  Through my personal experience, I could see how students are highly motivated through songs, as they find it a very fun way to learn the contents and it is very important to look for tools that feed the students' interest.  Also, through the association of images, it can be much easier to r

TEACHING GEOMETRY TO STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Imagen
Hello to all of you! Today I bring you a post about how we can teach geometry to students with special educational needs. After some research, I have been able to identify a few ways: 1. Using manipulative material. For visually impaired students, it can be very helpful to touch the material with their own hands as they can get an idea of what the figures look like. 2. Explanations based on everyday experiences or examples. We can design explanations that have to do with examples from everyday life to make it much easier for them to understand. 3. Adjust the activities to their level. It is essential that we adapt the activities to the possibilities available to each student, because if they do not reach the level of the students, they will feel frustrated and bored. 4. Use accessible technology. Including programmes adapted for students can be very beneficial as they will be able to use them and they will be able to learn much more quickly and effectively. 5. Tailor assessment to the

EXPLORING ENTERTAINING GAMES FOR TEACHING GEOMETRY

Imagen
Hello to all of you! Today I bring you an interesting post about possible games that we can play with our students to learn geometry. Many times teaching geometry can be a big challenge as it is a very complicated part of mathematics but if we teach it through interactive and creative games it can be very entertaining. Some of the games we could play are the following: Constructions with geometric figures.  For this game, We have to provide the pupils with geometric figures of different sizes and colours. We will start by asking them to create figures from the simplest to the most complex. This can be beneficial for them to experiment with the composition of shapes and to see how they relate to each other.  Another fun game can be the shape hunt where pupils have to find objects with different geometric shapes provided to them, such as circles, squares, triangles, etc. This encourages pupils to be attentive to their surroundings and to observe and identify them appropriately. To concl

TEACHING GEOMETRY IN THE PRIMARY CLASSROOM

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today we are going to explain how to teach geometry for primary school students.  Geometry is a fundamental part of mathematics that acquaints primary school students with shapes, spatial relationships, and problem-solving. Teaching geometry successfully in the primary classroom can be rewarding through innovative and strategic methods. Here are several engaging techniques and useful resources to improve geometry instruction for young learners: Some activities to explore geometric concepts can be using manipulative resources such as pattern blocks, tangrams or geoboard as visualisation can be much easier to understand. On the other hand, technology can be very useful as it helps students to learn through games or interesting programmes.  Using real connections can also be very beneficial since, as we have seen throughout the blog, geometry is present in our daily lives. It can be very useful to explain concepts using real life examples.  Many teachers are also committed to

EXPLORING THE INTERSECTION OF GEOMETRY AND FASHION

Imagen
Hi everyone! Let's talk a bit about how geometry is integrated into fashion. Geometry and fashion might appear to be an unusual pairing, but they share a great connection that influences our perception and creation of clothing. In this entry, we explore the connection between geometry and fashion, highlighting the significant role math plays in shaping style and design. The Impact of Geometry in Fashion Geometry is a powerful design element in fashion, affecting everything from garment construction to pattern making and embellishments. Designers use shapes, lines, angles, and symmetry to create visually striking and structurally sound pieces. Geometric Patterns and Prints Geometric patterns are a long-standing staple in fashion, adding modernity and sophistication to clothing. From classic stripes and polka dots to intricate tessellations and chevron designs, geometric prints make bold statements and infuse outfits with dynamism. EXPLORING GEOMETRY IN ARCHITECTURE

Imagen
Hi everyone! Let's talk a bit about how geometry is integrated into architecture.  Geometry and architecture have been intricately linked throughout history, producing awe-inspiring structures that engage our imagination and senses. This entry delves into the captivating realm where geometry merges with architecture, highlighting how form and function coexist harmoniously. It is very important architecture because it guides the development of designs that are structurally robust, visually appealing, and functionally effective. Since ancient times, architects have utilized geometric principles to create timeless and iconic buildings. Some Examples of Geometry in Architecture: Sacred Geometry in Gothic Cathedrals : Gothic cathedrals, such as Notre Dame in Paris, demonstrate a profound connection with sacred geometry. Proportions like the golden ratio and the Fibonacci sequence are employed to craft magnificent and harmonious spaces. Symmetry in Classical Architecture : Classical stru

THE GEOPLANE AND THE TANGRAM: MEANS TO PROMOTE CREATIVITY

Imagen
Hi everyone!  A number of teachers seem to have difficulty overcoming the challenges that arise when teaching geometry. One way to address this would be for them to band together to create tools that encourage creativity. Often, it is noticeable that they adopt a simplistic approach in their lessons, without exploring new techniques that could allow students to use their creativity when learning geometry. The aim is to introduce new didactic resources in the classroom, such as the geoplane and the tangram, which, although little known, are very beneficial for the intellectual development of students. The geoplane allows experimenting with mathematical models and building numerical concepts in different contexts, while the tangram promotes skills such as abstract thinking, spatial relationships, logic and imagination, in addition to introducing geometric concepts. It is important to demonstrate the usefulness of these little-known materials in teaching geometry, as they encourage creati
